Introduction to Let's Talk

Let’s Talk Mentor Program for Volunteers

The aim of Let’s Talk is to see
discipleship and well-being through intergenerational relationships.

“Mentors are good listeners.
They can help us see things from different angles and be with us while we work things out for ourselves.
Mentors are not people who have all the answers but they know how to really listen,
are great at encouraging us and often have lots of interesting stories to tell."

Learning from each other

Let’s Talk includes self led learning using pre-session material and learning from others in a small group.

You will explore mentoring through the pre-session material and then bring your experience, thinking and questions to the small group session.

Here we will learn from each other, take part in activities that help us think further and work together in small groups to hone our skills.

Help us improve

Feedback

All participants are encouraged to provide feedback at the end of each session. This is important for the development of the program and the learning of future mentors. Most importantly it is important for our young people.

You will find the online form for feedback at the end of each session page. Each question is optional so do not feel as though you have to fill it all in.

Be Safer Recruited

Criteria for acceptance onto the program

All participants will be safely recruited. This means you will complete an application form, give us the names of 2 referees and be interviewed. The interview allows you to ask questions about the role and with the Lead Mentor decide if the role is right for you.

Once your application has been approved we will ask you to complete a DBS and online Safeguarding Training if they are not up to date.

Please note we are not able to accept DBS from other organisations.

Mentoring and check ins

Completion of the program

Once you have completed the Let’s Talk mentor program, your application is approved and your DBS and Safeguarding Training is up to date, we will link you with a young person and their family.

You will also receive a certificate of training confirming your role as a Mentor.

Once you start mentoring you will be invited to regular reviews (otherwise known as a coffee or a beer) with a Lead Mentor. This is to check in how you are getting on and whether there is anything we can do to support you.
